Limitations have been brought to the arenas used for touristic sports just before the start of the 2008 season...Some serious decisions have been made on determining the arenas for touristic sports activities for the year 2008, at the meeting held by the Muğla Governancy, Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism in our town.

Burhan Coşkun, Fethiye Culture and Tourism Director, said that the decisions will be meticulously implemented, and emphasized that frequent controls would be carried out. At the meeting attended by the town”s Youth and Sports Director Mehmet Ilgar, TURSAB BYK Chairman Süleyman Kaya, Fethiye Port Director Murat Yıldız, Göcek Port Director Galip Avcı, and the Commanders of Fethiye and Göcek Coast Guards, the rules that will be applicable to paragliding, jeep safaris, Quad biking, rafting, canoeing, underwater sports and water sports were taken in hand.

According to the decisions taken, the transfer vehicles used at Babadağ, one of the best arenas for paragliding in our country and in the world, will not be able to work without documents attesting their suitability to the terrain. Transfers by other vehicles is forbidden. Travel agencies transferring single flyers will be obligated to keep lists of the names of all pilots. It has also been decided that a list showing all customers must be kept at the transfer vehicle. While it was stated that the General Directorate of Civil Aviation would be informed of working hours for a NOTAM, paragliding activities at Babadağ Ölüdeniz, Babadağ Club Lykia World, and Kozağacı arenas would start at daybreak and last until sundown.

Other decisions were as follows:

 1-JEEP SAFARI

From Fethiye, Kemer junction, Tlos, Yakaköy, Saklıkent, Kumluova, Karadere, Patara, Karaköy, Kaş, Kalkan and back to Fethiye.

Every travel agency must have a professional tourist guide at jeep safaris. The speed limits on highways will be strictly adhered to. There will be no speeding, especially between the Kemer junction and Saklıkent. No candies will be thrown, no water sprayed along the way. Every day, before the start of the safari, tourists will be informed of the rules. There will be no smoking in the vehicles. Passengers over the capacity will not be taken.

2-QUAD BIKE

Hisarönü, Kaya village, Gemile Bay route, or Koca Çalış, Karataş, Tuana village route

Each agency has to have a professional guide during the activity. The speed limit determined by the Highways Law will be adhered to. Protective helmets must be worn during the activity.

3-RAFTING, CANOING

5 km route between Eşençayı and the Saklıkent bridge.

Agencies will take all safety precautions. Protective helmets will be worn during the activity.

4-UNDERWATER SPORTS

Bays within the boundaries of the town of Fethiye

Free diving is permitted in the Fethiye area, except in military prohibited areas, and areas where protected cultural and natural assets are present according to Article 35 of Law No. 2863, published in the Official Gazette No. 24533 on September 24th, 2001.

5-WATER SPORTS

General rules

Water sports will not be permitted outside the arenas determined by the committee. All necessary safety precautions will be taken for water sports, water sports will be executed 200 m from the shore, swimming areas will be clearly indicated, and access routes marked.

It is forbidden to use jet skis for water sports in public beaches and boat berthing areas (Fethiye Bay, Göcek, Oyuktepe Bays, Ölüdeniz, town beaches, Gemile Bay, Günlüklü and Katrancı Beaches, commercial or private). Five holiday facilities will be given permission for two jet skis each, provided they undertake full responsibility.
