World Taekwondo Breaking Champion Ali Bahçetepe has successfully completed the record attempt he ventured in Datça”s Amphitheatre. Ali Bahçetepe, got a way ahead of Narve Læret”s (Norway) record that was broken in Oslo, Norway in November 9, 2006. The most concrete blocks smashed by hand in one minute was 90 by Narve Læret (Norway); however Ali Bahçetepe broke an incredible record by breaking 120 concrete blocks in 24.28 seconds. The record attempt was observed by Kelly Garrett, representative of Guinness World Records, Hüseyin Ekinci, Istanbul provincial representative of the Turkish Taekwondo Federation (TTF), Muğla provincial representative Emine İpek and President of the Referee Committee of TTF, Necmettin özel. Following the successful record attempt of Ali Bahçetepe, Mayor of Datça Erol Karakullukçu, gave plaques of thanks to the representatives of the Federation and the Guinness referee who were present at the attempt.
After breaking the Guinness record Ali Bahçetepe said, ’What”s important is breaking the moral record. The record-holder before me had broken 90 blocks in 16 seconds and I managed to beyond this by breaking 120 blocks in 24 seconds. I did this attempt for my flag and made a hit. I had personally applied for this record attempt in 2004 and 2005 but I had no reply. This time my application through the Datça Municipality was accepted by the GWR and they sent a representative.” Bahçetepe was congratulated by his wife and students after his successful attempt.
Guinness representative Kelly Garrett, commenting on the record said, ’Although I have been at many record attempts, this one really got me excited. Mr Bahçetepe did a very successful attempt and broke the record.”
People of Datça, witnessing the new Guinness record, applauded Bahçetepe for along time standing.
