Hamam is a crucial part of Anatolian culture. It appeared 6000 years ago with Sumerians then it became a cultural part of almost every civilizations. It has been told with “Turk” name as most meaningful and most often. So, when “what is the first thing about Turkey came to your mind?” question is asked to foreigner guests, most of them generally say “Turkish Bath”.
Turkish bath is a composition which consisted of combination of Turkish bath tradition with Anatolian bath culture at fifteen century. Beginning from this time, baths were built all over the country then it is known approximately fifteen thousand baths only in İstanbul at seventeen century.
As pupil of our country”s tourism, the Turkish bath culture is also kept alive delicately in our county at both within the body of big hotels and especially companies which was established for bath (hamam) service. Just like Sultan Hamam which entered into service in May at Foça Burnu, 1030 Street No:142. With more chic design and specific bath part which was decorated carefully with fussy view, people live the traditional Turkish bath emotion in Sultan Hamam, of which service is not just limited with this.
Various services in its constitution: Hamam (Bath), Sauna, Steam Bath, Foam Massage, Manicure, Pedicure, Wax, Face Mask, Skin Care, massage with Aramo Therapy oils, Sultan Oil, Milk Massage, Back Massage, Shiatsu Massage, Stone Therapy, Foot Massage and Cellulite Massage; like these services it tries to reply customers” all wishes.
Kadir Kavak, business administrator of Sultan Hamam said “Business administration of Hamam is our ancestors” profession. This profession passed from our grandfather to our father then from father to us. I have been Hamam administrator for eight years. Our grandfather was doing this job in Ankara, our father was doing in İstanbul. We came Fethiye in 1996 and have been doing this job for 12 years. We have been actuating Belcekız Holiday Village”s Hamam for 12 years. In Hisarönü there is Lycian Center, we have been actuating it 6 years. Previous times, we actuated Saray Hotel”s hamam and then we got started this place in May.
Our aim is to satisfy our customers in best manner. We meet our customers with smiling face when they come us. After beginning presentation we take them to sauna, then to Hamam part. After we make coarse and throw dirts from the body we do Foam Massage. After this massage we do head massage. Then we take them to our sitting room. After keep them waiting 15-20 minutes here we serve them our hot drinks. Then we massage them with herbal oils.
While we do this job we work with a professional team. Our esthetician Mrs. Aynur has been doing this job nearly for 4 years. Mrs. Perihan, Medine and Nurden are our professional staff on massage subject. Mr. Bayram and Kamil are working in Hamam part. They are from Tokat city. The people of Tokat are professional about this job so we preferred from Tokat.
Our bath is at Summer-Winter, seven days of week open and serve from 09:00 (morning) to 22:00 (evening).
If our customers come here by making appointment we won”t keep them waiting. Summer-Winter we have service all over the Fethiye even for 1 person. But for distance region (like Gocek), there must be 6 people to be able to give service.
I shall give a brief information about Aroma Messages with herbal oils. Their massage time is changing from 30 - 45 minutes to 1 hour. Massage with organic stones take 1,5 hour. Foot care massages take 20 minutes. Back massages take changeable time from 15 to 30 minutes according to person. We invite the people who want to get more information about Hamam and massage, to our Hamam. I want to add this too. With the increasing of Tourism potential, this hamam profession has been made by everybody but my advice is that expert people should do this job.
The other subject is; there is a project of us which is performed with Fethiye Public Education Center. Behalf of Public Education Center, we opened masseur course and now 25 people attendant there. Totally 5.5 week will take time. In normal conditions it takes 6 month but we will finish it at 5.5 week. If it was 6 month you would go 2 days in a week. But we will finish this course in 5.5 week by adding Saturday and Sunday on condition of full day. Before starting this course, we expected attandance of youth as much more but it didn”t happen what I expected. Now, only retired people are coming. But we would expect much more attandance of our youngs. We want our youngs to evaluate this”. Besides Kadir kavak stated that if interests occur this course will be opened again and said ”We know the importance that youngs in tourism regions should be trained with certified and equipped service conscious. Therefore, if unemployment is thought as high degree we know duty to open a new working area to our youngs so we are waiting all interested young friends to Fethiye Public Education Center”s organization, that is our course.”
