Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry has designated a new promotional campaign to promote Turkey. The promotion campaign this year also includes the new emerging markets such as China and the Far East. With five films to be shot by the director of James Bond, different promotions for each region will be available.
The Culture and Tourism Ministry is preparing to launch a new promotional campaign to promote Turkey. The ministry has designated new strategies for Turkey”s oversees promotion in 2008. Turkey has attained a 20 percent increase in the number of tourists in 2007 compared to last year, and the ministry aims to strengthen tourism with new strategies in 2008.
The ministry, having formerly conducted promotion campaigns mostly in Europe, the United States and Russia, has now divided the world into 10 regions. Adding new emerging markets such as China and the Far East in its promotion campaigns, the ministry will conduct different promotion campaigns peculiar to each culture. Moreover, the ministry has agreed with the U.S.-based Markefxs Company to shoot the advertising films for five tourist destinations in Turkey. These films will be broadcast all over the world in 2008. Manuel Gonzales, the visual effects director of the latest James Bond movie Casino Royal and Titanic, will be the visual director of the advertising films.
Advertising film for five regions:
A budget of $120 million has been allocated for the promotion of Turkey this year, said Özgür Özaslan, the director general of the promotion department at the ministry, adding that Turkey”s oversees promotional campaign, which used to be conducted by dividing the world into five regions, is now being conducted in 10 regions with the inclusion of new countries. “Among these regions, we have formed a southern Europe category, which includes Mediterranean countries. We have designated the U.S. as the second category, the UK, Scandinavia and the Baltic states as the third group. The fourth category consists of Russia, Eastern Europe and the Turkic republics while the fifth category includes the emerging market in the Balkans. The sixth category consists of central European states while the seventh category consists only of Israel since it is a special market. The eight categories include the Middle East and north African countries while the ninth includes China and the 10th includes India and countries in the Far East.” Therefore, the ministry will be able to work with agencies that know the people of each region very well, said Özaslan.
Meanwhile, the ministry, which has shot two advertising films for Turkey and Istanbul up to now, made a change in the advertising strategy for 2008. An agreement was reached with the U.S.-based Markefxs Company to shoot advertising films for Cappadocia, southern Aegean, Antalya, eastern and south-eastern Anatolia separately, said Özaslan, adding that the ministry also plans to shoot a separate film focusing on health tourism and thermal resources. “Up to now, we have conducted nationwide promotion. However, we now want to advertise Turkey on the basis of destinations. Manuel Gonzales will be the visual director of the advertising films, according to the result of the tender held for this. The director formerly worked on the movies Casino Royal and Titanic,” said Özaslan.
