It has been informed that the numbers of wild goats which were in 3 different places like “Wildlife protection and devoloping areas” in Muğla region got over 3 thousand in 2007 year. This number was around totally 100-200 levels in last years because of not enough protection and unprofessional hunting before 1992.
When Muğla region where has important touristic resorts like Marmaris, Bodrum and Fethiye has been being spoken with its long coast line and clean beaches and coves which have the green and blue together along this coast, Muğla region has been started to be spoken with hunting tourism onto the growth of wild goats numbers in the “Wildlife protection and devolopment areas” on the region by having the organized protection and conscious hunting.
Muğla Provincial Environmental and Forest Directorate- Nature Protection and National Parks Local director, Fikret ÇATALKAYA said that Köyceğiz centrum, Çakmak, Datça wildlife protection and devolopment areas in Muğla region had been got under the protection in 1992. before this protection, the numbers of wild goats in the wildlife got lower to 100-200 levels because of not enough protection and unconcious hunting. But now, the total numbers of wild goats got over 3000 in 2007. Local diroctor ÇATALKAYA who told that wildlife protection areas in the region was opened every year to the hunting tourism within the framework of quota which is agreed by the Nature Protection and National Parks General Directorate told that 8 wild goat hunting quota has given that year for wildlife protection areas in Muğla region and following year, this quota would grow up %50.
Local Director of Nature Protection and National Parks, ÇATALKAYA wanted our citizens to abide protection cares completely and not to do unconcious hunting.
The wild goat hunting quotes which are given on the region are used between August and March months for Turkish and Foreign hunters.
It is charged 1.025 YTL for joining the hunting, for hunting period and 90cm horn longness is charged 4000YTL. If the lenght of horn is more than 90cm, 100YTL is charged for each cm from the hunters. Also, 2000YTL is charged from the hunter who injured the animal and 6000YTL is charged from the hunter who hunted the baby or female wild goat. If the goat is under 7 years old, 5000YTL is charged.
Köyceğiz Wildlife protection and Devolopment area is the biggest of all in the region with its 483ha bigness. Before 1992, the numbers of wild goats were around 100-200, in 2001 it was 538, in 2004 it was 1193, in 2006 it was 1522 and in 2007 it got over 3000 goats.
