Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs informed that the palm trees which have been being done sowing and planting in 6 cities where there is also Muğla in have been isolated by Plant Preserving Services Departmant Authority of Plant preserving Directorate General.
The palm trees which have been being imported by paying 500-1000 EURO for each palm tree from Egypt and Jordan are under overhanging danger of insect. “Red Palm insect” which came Turkey with the imported palm trees were taken a knock millions of EUROs.
Ministry of Agriculture and Roral Affairs banned the import of these trees and isolated 6 cities as Muğla, Adana, İstanbul and İzmir.
Head department of Plant Preserving Services of Plant preserving Directorate General of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Emin ŞAHIN said that importing of palm tree was banned as Ministry and Scanning work has been being done in 24 cities where their sowings and planting have been done.
SAHIN who told that isolations have already been started in İstanbul, İzmir, Adana, Mersin, Atalya and Muğla cities said:
“These harmful insects entered to our country with the imported palm trees. Nearly 500 thousand palm trees where are on the coast line from Şanlıurfa to Istanbul are under overhanging danger of these harmful insects. Thousands of trees were perished. We ascertain the trees which have insects on as Ministry. We do the Area tightining with trapping system. This contestation will go on 3-4 years.”
