A 64-year-old man named Muammer Ozdayioglu is touring Turkey on foot to write a book. Thus far he has visited 75 cities and walked over 26,000 kilometers. Ozdayioglu, compared with Evliya Celebi, a world-famous Turkish traveller, began his tour from Aegean city of Aydin on May 4th, and reached northern city of Zonguldak after he walked 3,200 kilometres between cities in the
Mediterranean and Central Anatolia.
"I aim to complete my tour in Aydin mid-September," Ozdayioglu told A.A correspondent, and said that he is walking 30 kilometres a day. Ozdayioglu stated that he takes photographs of the cities he visits, particularly photos that reflect the historical heritage, nature and
social structure. According to Ozdayioglu, he has visited 75 cities and walked over 26,000 kilometers so far. Ozdayioglu added that he will proceed from Zonguldak to Istanbul, then walk through some Aegean cities, and complete his tour on foot in Aydin.
Evliya Celebi was a famous traveller, and the first and the greatest representative of travel literature. He visited almost all cities and towns of the Ottoman Empire and took long trips to foreign lands. His travels covered Anatolia, Rumelia, Syria, Egypt, Crete and Hejaz, Hungary, Poland, Austria, Germany, Netherlands,
Crimea and Caucasia.
He tried to cover history, buildings, customs and traditions and the famous people in his writings. His travel journal is published in several volumes.
