The 250-year-old historical Akseki Houses in Akseki district”s Bucakalan village in Antalya, have been redesigned as culture houses and been opened to alternative tourism. Part of a project initiated four years ago by ömer Duruk facilities, the second house has been restored and opened to tourism. The restoration of the third house is still ongoing. General Director of ömer Duruk facilities, Rıfat özkan, said the restored houses were opened to tourism thanks to the cooperation of tourism agencies.
He said doors, windows and ceilings of the houses were preserved as they were 250 years ago, and added that old carpet weaving equipment, tools used in making handicrafts and objects related to village life were on display in the houses. Austrian Franz Krasnitzer, one of the tourists who visited the houses, said he had obtained information about the life and traditions of villagers, adding, “the architecture of the historic houses and life conditions there deeply impressed me. I would like to have a one-week holiday in this village.” Traditional Akseki Houses are two-story stone houses. Despite the appearance that the main walls of buildings are stone, they are actually made of wood.
