Local Products Such As Pine Honey And Olive Oil Will Be Used To Promote The Region In Place Of Cds And Brochures
Muğla Governor Ahmet Altıparmak has announced a special project developed to enable the viewing of the river at Akyaka like an aquarium by the tourists.
Muğla Governor Ahmet Altıparmak declared that they had prepared a new project for the Kadın Azmağı (Woman River) in the city of Akyaka. Governor Altıparmak explained that the illegal fills done to attract more customers to the riverside restaurants would be cleared, and the boats currently plying the river route would be exchanged with boats with glass bottoms.
Governor Altıparmak said, “Those who visit the region will be able to view the river like an aquarium.” Governor Altıparmak went on to say that they were preparing different projects for the promotion of the city, and added, “Instead of handing tourists CDs and brochures, we shall give them local products such as pine honey and olive oil. Furthermore, a city plan targeting tourists will be prepared. The plan will contain all information from where to eat to where to stay.”
Muğla Governor Ahmet Altıparmak met with representatives of national and local media active in Muğla at a breakfast. Governor Altıparmak, speaking at the breakfast meeting held at Hacı Kadın House, stated that he had various ideas for the promotion of Muğla. The Governor, expressing the necessity of turning the city”s own products into brand names and promoting them, suggested the use of pine honey, olive oil and hand-woven fabrics for promotion instead of CDs and brochures.
Governor Altıparmak went on to say, “Visitors to Muğla are given CDs and brochures for the promotion of the province. I don”t think anybody reads those, or watches the CD. In their place, olive oil in presentation bottles, authentic hand-woven fabrics and pine honey can be used. We are going to work on this. There is no need to advertise our olive oil or pine honey. We must give the guarantee. Muğla has a pine honey brand called Maybal. I have never seen Maybal in Ankara, because there is insufficient promotion. We will establish stands in hotels in touristic regions and promote these products. We must find scenarios for these products and for Muğla”s cultural values. Muğla has no need to go looking for products, promoting what we have would be enough. We must correctly evaluate Muğla”s potential and offer that. We will work on the details.”
City Plan being prepared
Stating that tourists who come to Muğla don”t know where to go, Muğla Governor Altıparmak said, “Where will the tourist who comes to Muğla park his car? What is there to see? He doesn”t even have a map of the city. I have received information about the city from the Tourism Provincial Directorate. We are now preparing a city plan. The plan will include information on where to eat, where to shop. Muğla is a province that has protected its cultural values. But if the visitor does not know where they are and has no idea of their stories, he will contribute nothing to us.”
We have defined the negatives
Altıparmak also informed the media that they were preparing a new project for Akyaka”s Kadın Azmağı, carried to the agenda by Yeni Asır Newspaper. Expressing that they had determined some negative aspects during their inspection of the river, The Governor of Muğla put forth the following points: “Some boat owners have sailed into the river, and just left their boats there. There are some haphazard applications. These boats will be removed. Boats with glass bottoms will be brought in. The visitor who takes a boat tour on the river will be able to view the river bottom like an aquarium. The illegal fills effected by the owners of the restaurants along the river will also be cleared. The logic of “Let”s protect this area, let”s put up a wall so nobody sees it,” will not work. We are preparing a very special project for the Azmak. After our work is done, Azmak will be a much more beautiful place.”
