Vitapark Golf Facilities were opened at a ceremony attended by many guests.
Milas Deputy Kaimakam and Bodrum Kaimakam Abdullah Kalkan, CHP Muğla Representative Fevzi Topuz, Milas Mayor Hürol Önder, Chairman of the Turkish Golf Federation Ahmet Ağaoğlu and many businessmen attended the opening ceremony of the Vitapark Golf Resort Facilities on the Milas – Bodrum Road at the Tuzla region of the Boğaziçi Village. During the speeches at the ceremony, Dr. Gürol Büyük, the initiator of the project, said, ’This was a utopia, just a thought. Now it is an address, reality.” Dr. Büyük disclosed that they had consulted the most famous seven golf project architects of the world and asked them to prepare projects for these facilities, but were unable to build them as they were not environmentally friendly, and added, ’Our aim was to realize an environmentally friendly project. The basic aim was to leave the land as untouched as possible with minimum impact on the ecology. We have created a golf green with the surrounding magnificient nature, fairways among the protected land, wetlands, olive trees, the Aleppo pines which are under protection, lakelets, waterfalls, and environmentally friendly paspalum grass covering the whole facility.”
Dr. Gürol Büyük pointed out that they had used no government grants for this project; they had purchased the land over 20 years and created the golf facility. It has been learned that the facility cost 15 million dollars, excluding land values. The facility will provide jobs for 250 persons, and is expected to draw wealthy visitors. Milas Green, Turkey”s 18th and Milas and Bodrum”s first 18-hole golf green, has Par_71 International standards with 6,100 meters. The region is visited each year by 2500 species of migrating birds such as flamingoes and pelicans. Visitors toured the grounds and played golf after the ceremony. Environmentalist groups had protested the building of the golf facilities for a long time, saying that the facility would disrupt the natural balance of the region.
