International events in many fields are continuing to be organized in Fethiye. The latest example, the 1st International Children’s Festival is barely over but preparations for an international football tournament to be held in our town are almost finished. The tournament which will be organized by the Saran Media Group will bring some action to winter tourism in the region. The only obstacle for the tournament which will also be a tool for bringing many nationalities as guests to our town is the unfinished lighting system for the City Stadium. Although Fethiye City Council has applied to the Provincial Youth and Sports Directorate and the Ministry with all relevant documents, the fact that there has been no response as yet seems to be the only point of concern for the organizers.
Saran Media Group General Director Responsible for Sports, Mr. Selim Usta, meeting Fethiye Mayor Behçet Saatçi about the tournament being planned for December, 2008, explained that the Fethiye City Stadium met all the norms expected for the tournament, and said, ’So far, the only obstacle seems to be the lack of a lighting system.”
Mayor Saatçi also mentioned the lighting project for the Fethiye City Stadium, and said, ’We applied to the Provincial Youth and Sports Directorate and the Ministry with all relevant information and documents; we are still awaiting an answer. If we do not receive a positive response soon, we will take responsibility as the Fethiye City Council.”
