The English airline company FLYGLOBESPAN is planning flights from Scotland to Dalaman Airport three days a week, starting from April 1st, 2009.
This application will provide a considerable added capacity of 15,000 tourists starting during off season, from England, already making up 60% of the tourists coming to the Muğla region, and contribute significantly to the country”s tourism.
The General Director of the British Flyglobespan company which will be starting new flights between Scotland and Dalaman on April 1st, 2009, Mr. Liam Burke, and the General Director of ATM, the contractor company administrating the Dalaman External Flights Terminal, Mr. Hamdi Güvenç, announced the new flight program to the press at the Muğla Governancy.
Muğla Governor Dr. Ahmet Altıparmak speaking during the press conference, said that having an important company ferrying passengers between England, already providing 60% of incoming tourists, and Dalaman, will make it possible for tourism to continue during the off season as well.
Mr. Liam Burke, the General Director of the British Flyglobespan airline company, said, “We are starting flights from Northern Scotland to Dalaman on April 1st, 2009. We will be flying to Turkey for the first time as an airline company. I believe that we shall reach impressive numbers and that these flights will contribute considerably to the region.”
Dalaman Airport ATM General Director, Mr. Hamdi Güvenç, contributed by saying, “The company Flyglobespan is one of the foremost airlines of England. Actually, they are able to fly to New York five times a day. Having such a company planning flights to Turkey, to Dalaman, is added value for me, for the region, for Turkish tourism. We are extremely happy on this account. They will start in April, and April is off season for the region. That will create more added value.”
The British company”s planned flights to Dalaman three times a week from April 1st mean an added 85 flights and 15,000 persons coming to our country through Dalaman Airport.
1,056,246 persons of the 2,158,000 incoming tourists to the Muğla region as of the end of August this year entered the country through Dalaman airport. During the same period, 761,222 tourists came to the region through the Milas – Bodrum Airport.
Of the tourists coming to the Muğla region by air during the 8 month period, 931,277 were British.
2,658,398 foreign tourists came to the Muğla region in all of last year. This year this number is expected to rise over 3 million.
