A book introducing Turkish chefs to the world and acting as a guide for those who are looking for a good chef in Turkey is being prepared by the International Chefs Association based in Bolu.

Chairman of the association, Cihan Erdođan, said the book titled ’200 Famous Turkish Chefs” will be finished by the Ramazan Bayram (the feast marking the end of Ramadan) and aims to make the name of Turkish chefs heard all over the world.  He added that they are still accepting applications that will be evaluated by a six-person committee, and more information can be obtained from their Web site: www.uad.org.tr. ’More than 1,000 chefs have applied so far but we have chosen 80 of them according to their proficiency and experience,” he said.

Erdođan said the committee takes into consideration where the candidates have worked, as well as their professional experience and education while making its decision, and added, ’good chefs who don”t have a certificate but rose from the ranks can also apply. We are planning to give them this certificate and a program in partnership with the National Education and Tourism ministries.”

Erdođan said, ’Our chefs who will make their names heard in the world, will also contribute to the promotion of Turkish cuisine. Some 3,000,000 copies of the book will be printed, 2,400 books will be sent to relevant institutes in 177 countries, and 600,000 books will be distributed to five-star hotels, trade and industry chambers around Turkey.”

Erdođan added that training for chefs was insufficient in Turkey despite the wealth of Turkish cuisine and that a good chef speaking two to three languages could earn $10,000 per month.
