80,000 JOBS IN TOURISM IN MUĞLA!..

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Tourism Week, Muğla Governor Lütfi YİĞENOĞLU, declared that tourism is an industry without chimneys, an invisible export, and one that the tourism sector in Muğla, with a capacity of 261,000 beds, creates jobs for 80,000 persons.

The authorities made some very important statements in the name of the tourism sector during the closing ceremonies of the “Tourism Week” in Muğla, one of the focus points of tourism in our country, where the most important holiday centers such as Marmaris, Bodrum, Fethiye, Dalaman and Datça are located.

Governor of Muğla, Lütfi Yiğenoğlu, pointed out that the province of Muğla made important contributions to the economy of the country through various sectors, but mainly through the tourism sector, and said that the 261,000 bed capacity of the province created jobs for 80,000 persons. Saying that tourism created an invisible export item, the Governor declared that tourist satisfaction was of prime importance for the success of the sector, and that one tourist going home happy and satisfied was the best advertisement for our country.

Governor Yiğenoğlu, saying that we had taken our first step into the 2008 tourism season filled with hope, pointed out that the “2008 Muğla Model” is made up of 49 suggestions on various points, and compliance with all of them would guarantee the success of the sector.

Governor Yiğenoğlu, while repeating the aim of more than 3 million tourists for the year 2008, revealed that the number of tourists coming to the region by air or sea was 78,438 as of April 21st. During the same period of last year this number was around 58 thousand, and 2,658,000 tourists from abroad came into the region by air or sea in all of last year.

Muğla Mayor Dr. Osman Gürün, speaking at the ceremony, said that Muğla tourism needed a master plan.

At the ceremony, GETOB Chairman İlhan Açıkgöz, TÜRSAB Marmaris Executive Board Member İsmail Özbozdağ, ATM General Director Hamdi Güvenç, TURTES Representative Mehmet Akbıyık and Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Murat Süslü also shared their views on the steps to be taken to ensure the success of tourism in Muğla.

After the speeches, while Governor Lütfi Yiğenoğlu and other officials gave out the awards for contributions to tourism, the play staged in English by the students of Central Denizova Primary Education School, and the dances performed by the Muğla Public Education Center Folk dancing Group and the Muğla Nomads Association added color to the Tourism Week closing ceremonies, and were much applauded.
